Why Learn Guitar? Because of Iron Maiden

Let's talk guitar inspiration (vs. guitar perspiration, which is another topic).

I wanted to play guitar because of Iron Maiden's Dave Murray and Adrian Smith. But let's back up.

I wanted to play guitar because of the Iron Maiden album covers. Number of the Beast. Piece of Mind. Powerslave. I saw these in SoundWarehouse and just felt the metal vibes come through them without even listening.

Then I listened. I bought the first five Iron Maiden albums on cassette tape. Then I bought (for massive amounts of cash earned with lawn mowing money) VHS tapes of live Maiden concerts and saw these two shredders rocking through Aces High, The Trooper, Wrath Child, Number of the Beast, and dozens of other jams.

Listening to these tunes (many of them have become super popular across generations of human beings) makes your skin tingle, but seeing these dudes rock out on stage (I actually saw Iron Maiden in Chicago in 1987, on the Seventh Son of a Seventh Son tour, my first concert ever) just put me over the edge when it came to I NEED TO LEARN HOW TO PLAY GUITAR.

What's your guitar story? Who electrified you? Let's share inspirers!!!

Love y'all.

Mark
